Hi, I’m Kenyatta
Group Practice Owner and LPC Supervisor
During the early days of COVID, a practicum student reached out to me looking for a placement site. She needed help, and I wanted to support her, so we worked through that semester together as best we could.
Shortly after that, another student named Shearon joined the practice. Shearon is still with us today. She’s now fully licensed. Working with her helped me realize how helpful it would be to have a more structured way to guide students through their training.
That experience led me to develop the Practicum Manual, a structured guide designed to help practicum students and supervisors navigate the training process with more clarity and confidence.
Created by an LPC-S and group practice owner who actively supervises interns.

Kenyatta Black Counseling is more than an internship site, they are a supportive community that has been a key part of my journey to become a therapist. As I mentioned before it is inspiring to see those who look like me, especially black women in the mental health/counseling field. From the weekly site supervisions with open dialogue to discuss clients, therapeutic techniques and or everyday concerns is why I love Kenyatta Black Counseling.

I am so thankful for the experience of working with Kenyetta. The knowledge, wisdom, and support I gained was exceptional. Kenyetta takes her time with each student and helps build them up as a clinician. I learned so much during the experience that I will carry in my heart forever. I highly recommend supervision with Kenyetta Black Counseling because you will gain therapeutic information and skills on leadership skills, growing yourself, and intricate details for having a business mindset.

I started my practicum, internship 1 and 2, with Kenyatta Black Counseling. Mrs. Black has given me the opportunity to be the Practicum/LPC Associate Coordinator for the business which has allowed for professional and personal growth. The confidence and mentorship Mrs. Black has provided has given me the empowerment that I thought did not exist. My experience has been exceptional and supportive. Kenyatta Black is very knowledgeable in the field of counseling, as well as a great role model to help build and establish novel therapists in the field of counseling.

Being at Kenyatta Black Counseling has been an amazing experience. I have learned so much to become the best therapist I can be. It has been a pleasure to connect with this community. Being able to do this with black women in the mental health field has been inspiring. The weekly supervisions have been so educational and provide comfort when asking questions.

When I was an intern, Ms. Black was my supervisor. I knew she was the one to pick after our first meeting. I instantly felt relaxed and comfortable in her presence and in sharing with her. She has always made herself available for questions or reassurance. Her flexibility, professional respect for interns and colleagues, and knowledge/experience with trauma made her the perfect fit. She has a big heart and has really helped to launch my professional counseling career. It is not hard to see why her clients must love her so much.

Mrs. Black comes highly recommended as a therapist and as a supervisor. She is ethical and practical in caring for clients and training new therapists. You’re not simply receiving therapy; you’re receiving an experience.
MS Clinical Mental Health Counseling

Having the opportunity to intern under Kenyatta Black Counseling provided me the opportunity to grow in my professional life, which helped to develop my professional identity to better serve clients. Being supervised by Kenyatta Black allowed me to experience her in other roles outside of a supervisor, but also a teacher, evaluator, counselor, and consultant. The developmental approach that is taken has equipped me to be competent in standard mental health assessment and safe care of clients. I have no doubt that you also will get the supervision needed under Kenyatta Black Counseling to develop necessary skills and the practice of ethical counseling to protect your clients and become a competent practitioner.

When you look up the definition of supervision, it’s often described as the act of overseeing someone or something. However, when Ms. Black served as my supervisor, the definition should have read: “guidance and insight offered to address challenges or obstacles in the field of psychology, delivered with compassion, warmth, ethical integrity, and professionalism.” Ms. Black equipped me to become a therapist grounded in strong moral principles, while encouraging me to embrace my unique energy and perspective. Under her guidance, I learned to be both effective and unconventional—a therapist who stands out while upholding the highest standards of care.
Intern I

When I first started looking for a practicum site. I wanted to find a site where I could connect my values and core beliefs without compromising a little of me. But that was not the case at Kenyatta Black Counseling LLC. Mrs. Black and her colleagues were everything I prayed for. They accepted me with open arms and I have grown so much under Mrs. Black’s Supervision. Mrs. Black is honest and straight to the point. She will provide you with knowledge and wisdom during one-on-one or group supervision. If you are ready to be part of a family and not just a team, then Kenyatta Black Counseling LLC.

Kenyatta, was a phenomenal supervisor throughout my journey as an lpc- intern (formal BHEC title). Not only is she supportive, she is flexible and pushes you to reach your goals. She is ethical and ensures that all clinicians reach their professional goals. If you are looking for a knowledgeable, innovative, ethical and supportive supervisor. I would recommend Kenyatta!
A structured framework designed to help interns grow while giving supervisors clarity and confidence throughout the training process.
Each semester includes a clear weekly structure with suggested assignments, objectives, and learning activities designed to help students build clinical confidence step-by-step.
Students complete activities that help them begin developing their professional identity as clinicians, including building their professional profiles and learning how to present themselves within a practice setting.
The manual includes guided assignments that encourage students to explore ethical decision-making, clinical reflection, and real-world counseling scenarios.
Students receive guidance on how to conduct mock sessions, reflect on their performance, and strengthen their clinical communication skills.
Curated video recommendations and learning resources help reinforce key concepts and support students as they grow in their clinical training.
Supervisors receive suggested structure for assignments and expectations so they can confidently guide students and evaluate their development.
Students are also encouraged to explore ways they can contribute meaningfully to the practice while building their own professional presence.
Many universities say they need more practicum sites, but private practice owners often hesitate because they are unsure how to structure the experience for students.
Without a framework, supervising interns can feel overwhelming.
This manual was created to help make the experience a win-win — providing structure for supervisors while helping students grow into confident professionals.
