A MESSAGE FROM OUR FOUNDER

My journey to becoming a therapist is rooted in personal experience. As a child, I faced significant losses. Before I graduated high school, I had already sat on the front row of two funerals. I had to adjust to major life changes at a young age, and I remember carrying an overwhelming sadness and a deep sense of shame that didn’t belong to me.

In my early 30s, I left corporate America to pursue a degree in counseling. I started what was then a solo private practice, Kenyatta Black Counseling. Over time, as I grew personally and professionally, I became a supervisor. During the height of the pandemic, one of my LPC Associates, Tameka Turner, continued to work with me after becoming fully licensed, and that’s how KBC as a group practice was born.

Today, we are a trauma-informed, heart-centered practice committed to walking with you through healing and growth, because I know, firsthand, what it means to navigate pain and come out on the other side.

Kenyatta Black is the first counseling service I've ever used, and I was blown away by the care I have received. My therapist, Jeanine, made me feel welcomed and heard. Unfortunately, life pushed me down, and I had to put therapy on the back burner for a few weeks. But I'm getting back into it this week, and I owe all the thanks for that to Krystal. She was so patient and understanding of my situation and made the process very smooth.

I was undecided if I wanted to go to therapy but ended up deciding to do an online one and wanted to try in person as well, see which was best for me. Krystal always answers the phone with such a positive attitude, which is amazing, as this is a new experience for me. Kenyatta has been my own personal therapist and she’s been amazing as well, but i’m very glad it’s been such a warm and welcoming experience!!
